The NHS Internship Program Journey
January 2013: Pilot of Career Exploration Internship Program - 22 students and 11 business partners
2013 - 2014: Began school year with a full-time internship coordinator and 77 students in 26 businesses.
2014 - 2015: Continued growth in the internship program with over 150 student interns. Added partnership with Hare Chevrolet and Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) for students to participate in technical programs.
2015 - 2016: Hired a second full-time internship coordinator to facilitate internships, cadet teaching program, Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) and Ivy Tech Automotive programs.
2016 - 2017: Began school year with 235 students in intern and career programs. Added Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification program.
2017 - 2018: The school year included 278 students in our internship and career exploration programs. We maintained our partnership with our Certified Nursing Assitant (CNA) Certification provider and participated in the SkillsUp grant through the Department of Workforce Development.
2018 - 2019: Our school year began with 297 students with 111 business partnerships in internships and career exploration programs including the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification program, Ivy Tech Automotive, and Associated Builders & Contractors courses.
2019 - 2020: Began the year with over 325 students in career exploration programs including the internship, cadet teaching, CNA, Ivy Tech Automotive, ABC construction trades, and our newest program - Emergency Medical Services.
2020 - 2021: Began school year limitations due to Covid restrictions, however many internship partners provided opportunities for students with remote and project-based internship experiences.
2021-2022: We began the year with 460 students in career exploration programs including internship, cadet teaching, certified nursing assistant (CNA), Ivy Tech automotive, Ivy Tech welding, ABC construction trades, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
