The Advanced Placement Program, sponsored by the College Board, is committed to developing college-level knowledge and skills for students at the high school level. Noblesville High School offers 27 Advanced Placement courses in core and elective areas. All AP courses end with an exam that could grant students college credit, accelerated placement at the college level, or both.
During the college application process, admission counselors know that students who enroll in AP courses are willing to challenge themselves with rigorous coursework in preparation for the college setting. Selective colleges and universities indicate that a student’s AP experience favorably impacts admission decisions.
AP courses are the equivalent of college courses; therefore, students should expect to spend a considerable amount of time outside the classroom on the course work. Before selecting several AP courses, students should consider the amount of time they will be involved in various activities in and out of school. Book rental fees are often higher for AP courses since students must purchase their own college textbook.
The cost of AP exams is decided by the College Board and are currently $96 with a $7 administrative fee at Noblesville High School for courses in Art, Social Studies, and World Language. Historically, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) has supported Indiana students through the Advanced Placement (AP) exam subsidy in STEM courses and anticipate this will be true for the 2023-2024 school year as well. These exams incur a small exam fee ($0 - $10). Students who qualify for Lunch/Test Book assistance will also receive a fee reduction for AP exams.
The State of Indiana requires students to sit for AP exams in order to qualify for the Academic Honors Diploma as well as the new Graduation Pathway requirements. Therefore, any student at Noblesville High School enrolled in a College Board Advanced Placement course will be required to sit for the corresponding exam.
For students who do not take the AP exam…
- Cumulative grade point averages will be re-calculated retroactively without the grade weight
- Will incur a $40 unused exam fee charged by the College Board (if an exam was ordered)
