PSAT NMSQT

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is given every year in October.  The PSAT measures critical reasoning, math, and non-essay writing skills and is administered to all sophomores and juniors. Taking the PSAT is a great way for students to find out how prepared they are for college and career. For Juniors, the PSAT is the qualifying test for entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program. Some of the highest scoring students may win scholarship money, so while students shouldn't stress out about the PSAT, they certainly shouldn't ignore it either. We encourage all students to use the PSAT as practice for the SAT as it is an important guide on the college admissions journey.   

Additionally, the College Board has partnered with Khan Academy to provide students with free, individualized online tools designed to help students strengthen their skills.  Students can link their College Board and Khan Academy accounts to access free, personalized SAT practice plans based on their PSAT/NMSQT results. Your student is highly encouraged to take this step as Indiana now uses the SAT as part of Graduation Pathways, provided by the College Board, as the new state accountability exam.
